What is a Kokedama?

House of Koko was born from a passion for nature and natural products. Our kokedama are handmade and are a unique modern twist on the original kokedama technique, a Japanese garden art and connected to the practice of bonsai. Kokedamas are a modern art form and offer a natural, sustainable and unique alternative to display plants. They are suitable for a personal gift or simply an interesting accent for a favorite plant species.
Meet the Kokedama.
The literal translation of Kokedama is moss ball, and that is exactly what it originally is. In a Kokedama, the roots of the plant grow in a ball of soil and moss. At House of Koko, we have applied a modern twist, we use coconut instead of moss. The trend originates from Japan, where it is a true art form. Kokedamas belong between ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) and bonsai, keeping a plant small that actually looks very large and old.
